My Passions

Over the past few years, I have developed a passion for playing field hockey.  Ever since I was in seventh grade, I have loved the sport and have played on my school field hockey team and on the Princeton Field Hockey Club team for 3 years.  I also developed a liking for rowing and participated in the Fall season at my local rowing association - PNRA, and practiced during the off-season at CLRA.  These two sports have helped me grow as an individual by helping me work with others as a team.  Being a part of a team is important to me and I find it as a great way to connect with others who have similar passions.  As I participated in these two sports, I realized that opportunities for women from minority and less socio-economic backgrounds are few because of the cost of these sports. I am passionate about working towards helping bridge this gap by creating a non-profit organization dedicated  to bridging the gap for girls interested in these sports.  By raising money and donating sports equipment to girls around New Jersey and even other countries who cannot afford to participate in certain sports is one of my biggest goals.

I am also passionate about learning more about my Indian heritage and traveling to India to help young girls there with seeing a brighter future.  I feel having an emotional connection to my heritage is important because I get to understand the diversity between two different cultures - both Indian and American.  The reason I have a strong passion for helping girls in India fulfill their dreams is because I have seen/observed first-hand what the conditions of the schools and equipment are in India and as I have traveled there many times, I have developed a strong passion to make a difference in the children's lives.

Academically, one of my favorite subjects is U.S History, because I find it very intriguing how the different laws, amendments, and decisions that were made years ago, helped shape our country into how it is today.  Learning about the struggles and the victories the country has gone through is interesting to me because it allows me to make more sense of the current world.
